Shonda Rhimes (creator) did it again. She crushed our hearts and grind it into a hamburger.
On Thursday’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy “How To Save A Life”, Derek Shepherd aka Mcdreamy aka the best boyfriend on TV kicked the bucket after suffering a car crash. And Meredith, as always, “is going to be just fine”. (Seriously, what is wrong with you woman?)
The death of a major character in a long running series usually open doors for writers to pivot the show for a big change, a new direction. And with this catastrophic move, we can only wish that Meredith could still see another day without losing another “person” in her life. As the finale comes near, what does the future hold for Grey’s Anatomy?
Rhimes addressed the loss of Patrick Dempsey‘s character on the medical juggernaut after eleven seasons in a statement, she said:
Derek Shepherd is and will always be an incredibly important character — for Meredith, for me and for the fans. I absolutely never imagined saying goodbye to our ‘McDreamy.’ Patrick Dempsey’s performance shaped Derek in a way that I know we both hope became a meaningful example — happy, sad, romantic, painful and always true — of what young women should demand from modern love. His loss will be felt by all. Now, Meredith and the entire Grey’s Anatomy family are about to enter uncharted territory as we head into this new chapter of her life. The possibilities for what may come are endless. As Ellis Grey would say: the carousel never stops turning.
